📖 “Honor your father and your mother, as the Lord your God commanded you, so that you may live long and that it may go well with you.” – Deuteronomy 5:16
Message:
As we grow older, showing love to our parents can sometimes feel less natural. When we were little, hugs and “I love you’s” came easily. But as teenagers or young adults, we sometimes keep our distance or forget to express love in simple ways. Yet God’s Word still calls us to honor and love our parents—not just by obeying them, but by appreciating them.
Our parents sacrifice in ways we often don’t see—working long hours, praying for us, and guiding us through life’s challenges. Loving them means being patient with their weaknesses, respecting their guidance, and choosing gratitude instead of complaining.
When we honor and love our parents, God promises blessings: a life filled with peace, favor, and joy. Loving our parents is more than a family duty—it’s an act of worship to God.
Reflection Questions:
-
When was the last time I told my parents “I love you” or “thank you”?
-
Do my words and actions show that I truly appreciate them?
Prayer:
“Lord, thank You for my parents. Forgive me for the times I’ve taken them for granted. Help me to love them with patience, respect, and gratitude. Teach me to see them as a blessing and to honor them as You commanded. May my love for them reflect my love for You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
Challenge for Today:
Do one unexpected act of love for your parents today—like helping with chores, writing them a short note of gratitude, or simply saying, “Thank you for everything you do for me.” Small gestures can have a big impact.
