Heart That Knows How to Listen🌷
A Heart That Knows How to Listen🌷Women’s Devotional
Proverbs 18:13 — “He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him.”
💖 Reflection:
Listening is one of the simplest ways we can love another person, yet it is also one of the things we often struggle to do well.
We can become so eager to respond that we stop listening. We prepare our answer while someone else is speaking. We assume we know what they mean before hearing their whole story. Sometimes we listen only so that we can defend ourselves.
But wisdom slows down.
A woman who listens well creates room for people to feel heard, understood, and valued. She does not have to agree with everything she hears, but she chooses to understand before responding.
This is especially important in our relationships. Many conflicts become larger because people respond to assumptions rather than understanding the real issue.
Jesus listened to people. He noticed the overlooked. He allowed people to speak. He understood what was beneath their words.
Ask God today for the grace to listen—not merely with your ears, but with compassion.
Sometimes the ministry someone needs most is simply having someone willing to listen.
🪞 Reflection Questions:
- Do I listen to understand or listen mainly to respond?
- Is there someone in my life who needs me to slow down and truly hear them?
💐 Takeaways / Things to Do:
- Give someone your full attention during a conversation today.
- Resist interrupting.
- Before responding, ask yourself, “Do I truly understand what this person is saying?”
🙏 Prayer:
Lord, teach me to listen with wisdom and compassion. Remove impatience from my conversations and help me understand before I respond. May my listening become an expression of Your love to the people around me. Amen.
